Thinking about getting started with Electronic Health Records? It's not too late!
Fidelis Care New York is a strong proponent of Electronic Health Records.
Adopting an Electronic Health Record is a difficult task but for the next few years, local and federal programs will offset costs and provide subsidized support services.
Providers who accept Medicaid or Medicare can qualify for up to $63,750 or $44,000 respectively for demonstrating “meaningful use” of an EHR. To earn these payments, they must not only purchase and install a system, they must also use advanced functions like electronically transmitting prescriptions and sending automatic reminders to certain patients.
Federally designated “Regional Extension Centers” are charged with helping physicians understand these requirements and have negotiated discounts with selected EHR vendors. The Extension Centers offer unbiased advice about EHRs, oversee the implementation process, and help you use the EHR to improve your patients’ health, ensuring that the time and expense you invest in adopting an EHR results in a more efficient practice.
The Extension Center for physicians in New York City is NYC REACH, a program established by the NYC Health Department. In addition, the Health Department’s Primary Care Information Project still has a limited number of free eClinicalWorks EHR licenses available to primary care and certain specialty practices who see at least 10 percent Medicaid or uninsured patients. Visit www.nycreach.org or email pcip@health.nyc.gov to learn more.
The Extension Center for the rest of New York State is the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC). Visit www.nyecrec.org to learn more.
