Heart disease: Decrease your risk

According to the American Heart Association, the following healthy lifestyle habits can lower your risk of heart disease and high blood pressure:

  • Eat a variety foods that are good for you.
  • Control your weight using a plan designed just for you by your doctor.
  • Discuss what physical activity is right for you and exercise regularly.
  • Keep children active and healthy. Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for heart disease.
  • Quit smoking. Cigarette smokers are two-to three times more likely to die from heart disease than non-smokers.
