Know the Signs of Asthma
Childhood asthma is the most common chronic illness in children. It causes many children to miss school and often limits their activities.
According the American Lung Association, common symptoms of asthma include:
- Coughing
- A whistling or wheezing sound when exhaling
- Shortness of breath
- Chest congestion or tightness
Asthma signs and symptoms vary from child to child, and may get worse or better over time. Your child may have only one sign or symptom, such as a lingering cough or chest congestion.
Take your child to see the doctor as soon as possible if you suspect he or she may have asthma. Early treatment will not only help control asthma flare-ups, it may also improve breathing every day.
