Diabetes and Your Diet
Eating Right Can Help You Control Your Diabetes
If you have diabetes, a healthy eating plan can help you keep diabetes under control. Having diabetes doesn't mean that you have to eat special foods or follow a complex diabetes diet plan. For most people with diabetes, eating a variety of foods in moderate amounts and keeping regular mealtimes can make a difference.
Sticking to a meal plan and watching serving sizes can help you make sure that you eat about the same amount of carbohydrates and calories every day. This helps control your blood sugar and your weight. If you're already eating a variety of healthy foods, you may
need to pay attention to the amount you are eating to keep your blood sugar under control.
Your doctor can help you understand how your diet affects diabetes. He or she may also refer you to a dietitian, who can help you change your diet based on your health goals, tastes, and lifestyle. Fidelis Care has a special program for members with diabetes called
DiabetesCare. If you would like to learn more about this program, please call 1-888-FIDELIS (1-888-343-3547).
